Kupwara: From last week, a defamatory campaign has been launched through few news publications against Principal, Government Girl’s higher secondary school,Trehgam.
Inside Kashmir’s fact check team investigated reports and found them baseless, biased and a deliberate attempt at maligning the image of a reputed educationist. The reports which were published were carrying grave reporting lacuna as the whole story was reported without giving space to defendant or accused.
When Inside Kashmir contacted concerned Principal, GHSS, Trehgam, Mohammad Iqbal malik , he refuted all allegations and alleged that a strong lobby within school is working to make him compromise on their terms. ” One of the allegations they have claimed is, I hiked annual school fees. I admit it, I had hiked fees but the whole process was well documented through banks and school receipt bill book. Our higher secondary was in need of immediate laboratory, science students of 10, 11th and 12th were curving for scientific lab experiments. To mitigate emerging needs, Principals of Higher secondaries are supposed to come up with solutions, so did I, as a responsible administrator we hiked fees which was done through proper legal procedures”.
Mohammad Iqbal malik went on and said that, when this whole campaign was not enough to harm him, the ambiguous characters within school sent a complaint claiming that I have cut down decorative plants within the school milieu and used logs for personal use. ” In last winter after heavy snowfall damaged several plants, to well nurture them and beautify an enclosed area of the school, my Administration did pruning of decorative plants. How on this earth any person will use logs of decorative plants for the house.
When I started accountability and transparency in school, and with strong feedback from students, the status quo in school started to resist. I believe, if we are paid to do something against which, we give our time for personal business activities, a person at the helm of affairs must be tasked for such moral corruption. These allegations against me ,which are malicious and fake, carry a strong resistance towards my accountability, but they will fail “.
Moreover, after Inside Kashmir received a copy of complaint, and tried to contact complainants, who are basically identified as parents of students in the letter, were found bogus in nature. No such persons with names are parents of enrolled students in school.
To understand what students of said higher secondary think about their Principal, Inside Kashmir contacted female students who asked for anonymity and said that, despite, they have not enjoyed enough time under the administration of their Principal Mohammad Iqbal malik, due to unfavourable security conditions and now this COVID 19 prevailing situation ,but he has reformed school structure in a limited time. ” When Iqbal sir was posted in our school as principal his first priority was to develop a strong feedback communication with students. He used to held sessions with students to know about the status of class lectures and engagement of teachers in classrooms. One of his hailing steps was to establish a welfare system for students who were not able to afford their school fees and other charges. In collaboration with many dedicated teachers, out of their own pockets, they have provided school fees for many students belonging from poor financial background”.
