Budgam: Kanidjan residents protest against acute water shortage, uncleared roads

Budgam: Residents of Kanidjan and other adjacent areas of Budgam district here on Sunday said that they have been facing acute shortage of water, and uncleared snowy roads from the first day of snowfall.

Various delegations of residents from the villages said that Despite noticing the Jal Shakti Department of concerned locality, the situation has worsened from the past one week and people of these localities are facing immense problems. 

“It’s unfortunate to say that we had a delivery case of a pregnant lady in our locality. None from the administration came for the rescue, and locals themselves took the patient on shoulders to reach the hospital,” a local said.

Locals also claimed that they have been trying to contact Deputy Commissioner but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Villages like Paker pora, Charai Pora, Mohanpora, Shanker Pora, Karapora, Dalwan, Chek, Futlipora, Kanidajan, Naagbal, comprising of more than 10 thousand population approximately are facing hardships due to acute water shortage and uncleared roads


“We’re getting water from other localities, and unfortunately snow hasn’t been cleared yet on roads, which is creating huge problems for commuters as we have to go 1-2 kilometres for getting water to drink and other household use”, an elderly man said. 

“In case of any emergency are they going to let us die in this harsh winter, aren’t we humans, said an angry protester.
