Handwara Jul 7: Irrigation department along with Police personnel and Village Head led a drive to clean up Irrigation canals and clear obstructions in culverts to ensure water reaches tail-end areas of paddy fields.
The drive started from Barapora to New Bus stand Handwra where locals also joined in. Manzoor Ahmad, irrigation employee said, “the drive was taken to ensure that the water reaches the tail-end areas.” During the drive a major portion of Canals across Handwara have been cleared to make smooth flow of water. Besides digging, all types of obstructions and tree branches have been removed.
Manzoor Ahmad hails the effort and said that in future the same would be done in rest of Handwra and Langate
Manzoor Ah Lone further said that the drive had been taken in the interest of farmers to make smooth flow of water to irrigate the paddy and other cultivation. “In future we will also take similar drives to erase all obstructions so that the water will reach to fields unhindered,” he added.
In this process of clean up drive officials of the irrigation department thanked local Police.
