Handwara: On Wednesday Block Development Council Chairman Showket Pandit along with Irrigation officials and Sarpanchs led a Drive to Clean up Irrigation Canals and to clear obstructions in culverts and Irrigation structures so as to ensure that the water reached tail-end areas to enable farmers take up paddy and other cultivation.
The drive had been started from Khuro to PhoruChakla Langate where locals also joined in. BDC Chairman Showket Pandit said, “the drive was taken to ensure that the water reached the tail-end areas.” During the drive a major portion of Canals across Langate has been cleared to make smooth flow of water. Besides digging all types of obstructions and tree branches have been removed.
The BDC Chairman Showket Pandit hails the effort and said that in future the same would be done in rest of langate.
Manzoor Ah Lone, Irrigation offical said that the drive had been taken in the interest of farmers to make smooth flow of water to irrigate the paddy and other cultivation. “In future we will also take similar drives to erase all obstructions so that the water will reach to fields unhindered,” he added.
