For a scholar and a preacher it becomes the stumbling block for him as he has to face various obstacles or difficulties in practicing the teachings what they taught to people. Though the preaching gives him pleasure but in practice he has to face satanic occupation and laziness. He though benefits others as the others on listening him practice the teachings but he himself remain like a candle which illuminate its surroundings but leave a shadow in its bottom.There is a popular phrase ” Every light has its shadow ” or ” The nearer the Church,The farther from God “. Therefore it is needed that not only the scholar (Aalim) and preacher(Wayiz) but every believer should be like a sun which is wholly a light and illuminates the whole world.
In Holy Quran is there is mentioned Commination from Almighty Allah for those who besides being the scholars and preachers do not act upon what they preach.
Allah(SWT) says in Quran in Surah Al-Baqarah:44
Ta’muroonan neasa bil birri va tansavna anfusakum va antum tatloonal kiteab(kiteaba) a fa lea taa’kıloon(taa’kıloona)
What! Do you enjoin Al-Birr [the purification of the soul’s heart and the submission (to Allah)] onto others but you forget it yourselves while you read the Book? Have you then no sense?
In Surah As-Saff Allah says;
Yea ayyuheallazeena eamanoo lima takooloona mea lea taf’aaloon(taf’aaloona).
O ye who believe! Why say ye that which ye do not?
Kabura maaktan indaalleahi an takooloo mea lea taf’aaloon(taf’aaloona).
Grievously odious is it in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not.
Sayidana Abu Zayd Usama bin Zayd (R.A) Narrated that I heard the Messenger of Allah(S.A.W) ,Said;
On the Day of Resurrection, a man will be brought and he will be thrown into Hell. His intestines will come out and he will move carrying his intestines in in the same way as a donkey moves with his mill. The inmates of Hell will gather around him and say: O so and so! What happened to you(i.e. In which situation are you today ? )
Was you not enjoining people for what is right and forbidding them from what is wrong ? He will say: Yes I used to command people to do good, but I myself did not practice that good and I forbade people from evil but I myself was afflicted with it.
( Sahih Muslim: Volume 3; 2982 )
Imam Muhammad Bukhari (Rehmatullah Alai) the author of Book Bukhari Shareef has said that;
Restrict yourself from preaching unless and untill you yourself not practice what you preach others.
Here it does not mean that we should give up preaching or the work of Dawah but it stresses upon the practice of what we learn and teach.
Dawah is the basic and supreme duty of every Muslim.
Dawah is like a body and the action or practice is its soul and out of one of them if not present then the whole existencee is incomplete. Actually the Dawah and Practice are the two essential and sequent requirements and the main responsibilities of a believer.
In Quran Almighty Allah says in Surah Aal-e- Imraan
Kuntum khayra ommatin okhrijat lilnnasi tamuroona bialmaAAroofi watanhawna AAani almunkari watuminoona biAllahi
You are indeed the best community that has ever been brought forth for [the good of] mankind: you enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong, and you believe in Allah.
Thus it is the duty of a believer to learn and practice first by own and then to enjoin others for the same. The believer should cloth his best deeds with the spirit of sincerity and then with lowliness and humbleness submit before Almighty Allah for His blessed acceptance.
Dr Allama Iqbal has beautifully said the importance of Practice and dynamism ;
Ye Aaeen-e-Qudrat Hai, Yehi Asloob-e-Fitrat Hai
Jo Hai Rah-e-Amal Mein Gaamzan, Mehboob-e-Fitrat Hai
This is the law of Nature, this is the order of Nature;
Those who tread dynamism’s path, are the darlings of Nature.
Almighty Allah in his every creation has set His signs and advices for us.
Allah(SWT) in Quran in Surah Nahal:(12-13) says;
Wa sakkhkhara lakumul laila wannahaara wash shamsa walqamara wannujoomu musakhkharaatum bi amrih; inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil liqawminy ya’qiloon
And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
Wa maa zara a lakum fil ardi mukhtalifan alwaanuh; inna fee zaalika la Aayatal liqawminy yazakkaroon
And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.
Thus in each everything from a dust to the mountains Allah has subjected signs for us. Look at the day and night. The areas or the countries which are aways from the exposure of sunlight get covered with darkness and witness night. On the contrary the areas which face the radiations of sunlight get illuminated and enlightened and witness day. In fact in the same way the people who get far away from the Holy Quran, Sunnat-e-Nabi(SAW) and the Ulmahs, they get trapped in the darkness of ignorance, negligence and therefore face torment from the Almighty Allah. And the people who made their relations strong with Quran, Prophet Muhammad(SAW)’s teachings and Ulmahs , they get illuminated by the merciful illuminations and blessings of Almighty Allah.
Now look and think upon the changing of seasons. Sometimes sun get covered and hide with the clouds and we even during day experience darkness. But the sun without giving up his struggle finally come out of darkness and enlighten the world. These clouds are actually signs of Allah for us and teaching us that in the path of light i.e. truth there comes several hurdles but the sun does not afraid of these barriers and did not give up his journey of enlightenment. Likewise the dears of Allah who are the lamp of Islam can be confronted by different troubles and difficulties. But they with having firm faith in Allah remain continue towards their blessed destinations cum goals. They never afraid of harsh circumstances and never give up their mission. And then look when theses clouds scatter all over the sky, winds start to move and then there starts to come down the rain drops. After raining is over, sky becomes clear and the sun again appears and and shine even more intensely. Actually it gives us the indication that these rain drops are the tear drops which a believer on confronting with the miseries and difficulties shed from his eyes before his Deity with lowliness and humbleness and pray for forgiveness. And then just like the sky becomes clear after raining is over, similarly with the mercy and bounty of Allah the believer after repentance becomes innocent and free from sins. And he then again continue on the right path. Thus a believer can become angry during facing the challenges but he never become hopeless.
As Merciful Allah says in Quran in Surah Zumar:53;
Qul yaa’ibaadiyal lazeena asrafoo ‘alaaa anfusihim laa taqnatoo mirrahmatil laah; innal laaha yaghfiruz zunooba jamee’aa; innahoo Huwal Ghafoorur Raheem.
Say: “O ‘Ibadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
All praises are for Allah and all thanks to Him. May Allah forgive our all sins. May Allah make us the real believers. May Allah make us the real scholars, preachers and followers of Islam.
