KVK Kupwara organizes day long Farmers Awareness Programme under GKMS

KUPWARA, MARCH 29: District AGROMET Unit (DAMU), Krishi Vighyan Kendra (KVK), Kupwara today organized a Farmer’s Awareness Programme under Gramin Krishi Mosum Seva (GKMS) on role of weather and climate in farm production at Town Hall, here.

The programme was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Lone. While as, Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Wani was Guest of Honour, on the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, the ADC said that it is the need of hour that farmers should be acquainted with the latest scientific technology with regarding to the crop productivity and weather information. He stressed upon the concerned officers to organize such workshops at block level in the district so that farmers in large could be benefitted.

The expert speakers, Dr. Latif Ahmad, Scientist Agromet and Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Deputy Director, IMD Rambag apprised the farmers about the effects of weather on the incidence of pest, disease and the productivity of crops and the factors affecting climate change. The emphasis was on the factors affecting climate change and on the importance of weather advisory service provided by the DAMU Kupwara for enhancing the farmers’ income.

The farmers were also aquainted with the influence of weather on field crop, vegetables, and fruits by the expert committee of DAMU Kupwara.
The welcome address was presented by Dr. Sajad, Head KVK Kupwara while as, Dr. Arif Bhat, Scientist KVK Kupwara presented the vote of thanks.

On the occasion, 130 farmers from different blocks of the Kupwara district were registered on Farmers Portal for receiving SMS on Agromet Advisory. They were also familiarised with the Mobile App related to weather forecasting and Agro Advisory like Mosum etc.  Meanwhile, certificates were distributed among 10 farmers for best performance in agriculture activities.
