Man held with charas in Handwara

Handwara: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in North Kashmir’s Handwara area and recovered 120 grams of charas from his possession.

During searches, police team intercepted a person in a suspicious condition on patrolling and naka checking in Langate area who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.

The accused has been identified as Mehraj ud Din S/o. Ab Aziz Gojri R/o. Langate .

Around 120 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and taken to the police post for further questioning, the official added.

In this regard, a case FIR 5/2022 under section 8/20 of NDPS Act has been registered in police station Handwara against the accused person and an investigation has been taken up.

According to sources, SI Rashid Ahmad Khan was personally monitoring the patrolling in the area.

Meanwhile, the police official urged community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.

“Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he said.
