PDD Goes Tough Against Misuse of Electricity in North Lolab

Kupwara: In a bid to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the winters, Power Development Department (PDD) Saturday launched a massive crackdown against consumers over misuse of electricity in north Lolab areas.

As per details available with this newspaper, the crackdown was launched by the department upon receipt of specific inputs regarding usage of illegal electric gadgets and pilferage of electricity by people.

The teams conducted a series of raids in various localities and seized electric heaters and boilers to cut the extra load on the scheduled electricity supply.

An official in the knowhow of things said that the checking squads conducted raids in several areas of North Lolab including Shallgund, Khurhama, Kuligam, Severe and adjoining areas and seized a number of power appliances including high-voltage heaters and boilers used illegally by the consumers.

A PDD official confirming the conduct of raids said; “We have raided several areas in today’s crackdown and have recovered electric heaters and boilers and will continue with such raids in future as well.”

“Such crackdowns are the need of the hour in prevailing chilly weather conditions”, he further said.

Meanwhile the Power Department authorities have requested the people to use electricity properly and shun use of heavy-duty electric gadgets which they say causes inconvenience and overloading.(IK)
