Staff Reporter

Kupwara: A village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara is without power transformer from past 2 months while officials resort to delay tactics .
Batergam village, declared as COViD 19 ‘Red zone’ is 3 kms away from District headquarters, has been suffering from last 20 days due to unavailability of transformer.

Local residents have confined themselves to their houses due to designation of vulnerable COViD 19 area, but electricity black has taken toll on daily life .

” Our power transformer in last month had developed a technical fault and for repairment officials of PDD moved it to their workshop . It has been now almost 20 days , we are reeling under total blackout that too when our area has been declared as COViD 19 ‘Red Zone’ due to numerous positive cases. We approached officails many times but no one is listening us,” said a local resident .

Locals allege that reluctant PDD officails are using delay tactics with many impractical arguments.”if demands are not met we will hit to roads and block national highway. Let the COViD 19 protocol be up to officails and offices , we will try way around if same things are repeated. We request DC Kupwara to take notice of our miseries ” locals told .

When Inside Kashmir contacted Xen, PDD Kupwara he did not answered despite repeated calls .
