In its endeavour to eradicate the menace of illegal cultivation of opium poppy in the District, Ganderbal Police on Friday found illegal poppy cultivation over a considerable chunk of land at Shallabugh village of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
An official said that under the close supervision of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal, a Police team led by Addl. SP Ganderbal Feroz Yehya and SHO Kheerbhawani lnspr. Syed Arif along with Revenue authorities swung into action and destroyed illegal cultivation of poppy on spot.
He said that a In this case FIR No. 15/2020 U/S 8/18 NDPS has been registered in Police Station Kheerbhawani and two persons namely Abdul Aziz Shiekh Son of Mohd Sultan Sheikh and Ghulam Hassan Khanday Son of Abdul Rehman both residents of Shallabugh have been arrested.
Police also took the requisite samples from the spot and further investigation is going on.
Pertinently, the poppy plantation was found amidst thick vegetation with the help of drone technology and more such illegal plantations are expected to be found in days to come.
People of the area highly applauded this move of Police and pinned hope that such actions of Police would continue in future.
