Srinagar: 12, July: A gynaecologist at Sub district hospital Charari Sharief in Budgam district asks a pregnant woman to go through surgery,despite her coronavirus test results pending. After Surgery, her test came postive which lead to a complete shutdown of maternity section while the staff that came in contact with the woman has been put under strict home quarantine.
Eighteen staff members were quarantined. Duo, mother and her baby were shifted to JLNM in Rainawari Srinagar for further treatment.
According to sources at Sub District hospital Charari Sharief, a women gynaecologist who performed surgery of pregnant women took risk that may have serious consequences as at least 18 staff members came in contact with her.
While talking to relatives of patient they said, “after her first test came negative, and during last period of her surgery they didn’t wait for actual report which lead to this problem. They could have waited for report.”
Patient women lives in Pulwama and she had come to his parents home in Chrar I Pora village of Charari Sharief town for post-delivery stay. She was admitted in SDH Charari Sharief on Monday.
The staff was ready for surgery when her first test came negative. Gynaecologist helming, the Maternity section at the SDH went ahead with the caesarean without waiting for the repeat test report.Her brother was last diagnosed with the corona virus postive.
“when I came to hospital for the admission of patient, I didn’t told them that I too was reported postive earlier, that’s my fault, after that they wrote on our file ‘verbally negative”, while the another test report was still awaited. But at least concerned doctors should have seen this seriously after operating surgery”, a relative said.
“we are thankful to concerned doctors that they saved our baby as he was in a serous condition”, a relative said.
The Block Medical Officer (BMO) in charge at SDH Chrar-i-Sharif, Dr Mastoora while talking to local newspaper, blamed the patient, who she said, “deceived” the gynaecologist at the maternity section..
While contacting to Nodal officer Dr Jan he said that doctor told their parents that the patient is in critical condition her baby could die and we can’t take any risk, we have to operate her on behalf of her last test which came negative. Now gynecology section has been sealed, fumigation has been done, their will be no other work further in that particular department till further notice. Those who have been quarantined, we will take their test tomorrow or day after tomorrow.
