Srinagar: Idrees Jan who was recently dismissed from his Govt job is very popular among his students besides having a tragic family history. Born in a middle-class family in Dardpora village of North Kashmir’s  Kupwara District, Jan got educated locally and got higher education from Kashmir University.
The government in an order issued here said that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, after considering the facts and circumstances of the case, observed that on the basis of the information available, the activities of Idrees Jan, Teacher GMS Kralpora Kupwara are such as to warrant his dismissal from service.
“The Lieutenant Governor is satisfied under sub-clause (c) of the proviso to clause (2) of Article 311 of the Constitution of India that in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold an inquiry in the case of Idrees Jan,”

Idrees Mir spoke about the sacking at large, he said, ” it was shocking and disappointing being dismissed, I had no idea when I was called to Naib Tehsildar office a few miles from my home, The official informed me on the phone that some documents are here for u to be signed, I had no idea that my life is gonna shatter this way”.
Jan’s  Elder brother Tanveer Ahmad told me, “a day before the army came and stayed for entire day surrounding our house premises but we were told nothing”.

The wife of Idrees Jan is numb and unable to utter a word after this Government decision. The children of Idrees Jan feel excited as people arrive at their residence. They have no idea what is going on. ” I would not be able to buy toys this Eid…..” Idrees Jan says in a disappointing mood before the people around him turn moist-eyed.

“The most shocking thing is that I don’t know anything other than teaching, what will I do now, this is what is making me restless now” Jan sighs.
“My students are well off and they have achieved heights in life, none will u find indulged in any anti-social activity, is this I am being given punishment for,” he questions.

On being asked if he will approach a court Idrees said that, How can anyone expect from him with such financial instability in the home to afford a lawyer. ” All I had was my monthly pay, I don’t have any other source of income. Just check my bank balance nothing is left there,” he replies hastily.

In his teens, Idrees Jan faced his first setback in 2007 when his uncle Ali Mohd Mir(who had adopted him) was taken away by BSF from Govt Higher Secondary school Kralpora gate from where he never returned.

Idrees Mir locally named “Jan’ was appointed as Laboratory Assistant on a compassionate basis in the Education department wherefrom he was promoted as Teacher. Having a fresh start in his life with marriage, John has three children.  Idrees Jan was yet to have a peaceful married life when in 2016 he was booked under PSA  for stone-pelting. The case was later quashed by the Honourable High Court after spending 4 months in jail.

The sufferings for him had not to end yet, Jan lost his father Khazir Mohd Mir in the same year when one local pelted a stone (during a land dispute) on his head resulting in his death.

On 01 May this year, Idrees Jan was shell shocked when he was handed over the sacking letter by the Magistrate. ”This was the most shocking and unexpected thing ever happened to me”, said Idrees.
