Sopore Attack: Municipal Councillor PSO Killed, Another Councillor Injured

Sopore, 29 March: A Municipal Councillor and a Special Police Officer were killed and a civilian injured on Monday in militants attack on Municipal Office in north Kashmir’s Sopore town of Baramulla district.

The official told, that councillor Reyaz Ahmad Peer son of Ghulam Nabi Peer of Ningli Sopore and SPO Shafqat Nazir Khan son of Nazir Ahmad of Mundji Sopore were killed while a civilian Shamas Din peer son of Ghulam Mohammad Peer was seriously injured in the attack.

Talking with the media on the sidelines of the wreath-laying ceremony at district police line (DPL) Sopore, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Sudhanshu Verma said, two militants are behind the attack in which a counsellor and a PSO were killed, while another councillor was injured.

SSP according to this correspondent said, they have accessed the CCTV footage and it is being looked into. He added that searches are on to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said, that two militants including a local militant Mudasir Pandith and a foreigner are involved in Sopore attack.

Official said that the top Police officer held a meeting with Army’s sector commander, DIG CRPF and SSP Sopore.

Moreover, the IGP said, he has directed the SSP Sopore to suspend the four PSO’s who were present there and didn’t retaliate.
