Sopore, June 21 : Three militants were killed in an overnight encounter between forces and militants in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An official told, that three militants of Laskhar e Toiba outfit were killed in Gundbrath area of Sopore town in north Kashmir.

Earlier an official said that a joint team of Army, CRPF and SOG of J&K Police launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the Gundbrath area.

As the joint teams of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter, he added.

A local news gathering agency quoting Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said, the killing of three militants in Sopore a big achievement to security forces.

Official said a top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant commander Mudasir Pandith is among the three killed militants.

Mudasir was involved in the killing of two councillor’s, two civilians and three policemen.

Meanwhile as a precautionary measure, Internet services in this north Kashmir town has been snapped.
