Srinagar, April 3: Indra Gandhi National Open University on monday orgainsed it’s 36th convocation ceremony in Gandhi Bhawan University of Kashmir.
Prof Nilofer Khan, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir, graced the occasion as ‘Guest Of Honour’. The other dignitaries who attended the ceremony were Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mohd Aijaz Assad, Deans of various schools of University of Kashmir, Officers of the UT of J&K and University administration, heads and Coordinators of the various departments of the university of Kashmir, Principals of the various colleges of the valley, Faculty members of the different departments of University of Kashmir, Coordinators and program incharges of the study centres under IGNOU regional centre sgr, guests from tourism industry of Kashmir, non-teaching staff of University of Kashmir, staff members of IGNOU regional centre Srinagar, besides the people from the media and the awardees.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Nilofer Khan while addressing on the occasion unequivocally congratulated the awardees of the regional convocation and distributed the degrees among the eligible learners. Humaira Jan, a learner of Master of Arts Rural Development (MARD) received the gold medal from the HVC for securing the first position in the programme. HVC congratulated the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar for taking many initiatives in the interest of the learners. She also showed satisfaction on the performance of the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar from last one year for addressing the grievances of the learners and taking it to new heights.
Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar, Regional Director, IGNOU RC Srinagar presented the regional convocation report of the IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar during the convocation function held at University of Kashmir. He also gave a detailed report of the centre regarding admission, examination, assignments, student support services and other activities conducted during the last one year.
For the 36th convocation of IGNOU under RC Srinagar, 8820 Learners belonging to 112 different programmes are eligible for getting degrees on the convocation. Among which 895 have registered for getting degrees on the convocation and 173 Learners of 42 different programmes have opted to receive the degree in person.
He informed that IGNOU RC Srinagar has emerged as one of the largest regional centre of the country in terms of enrolment and the enrolment during the year 2022 has reached the highest level of 54206. He also highlighted the achievements of the RC Srinagar that the centre has been identified as one of the centres of the country to conduct several national and international projects, like, e-vidya bharti, channel based counselling- swayam prabha channel, nodal RC for some programmes, etc. He also briefed that several initiatives have been taken in the interest of the learners, like, an innovation club has been setup at RC Srinagar, several activities under national and international days are conducted by RC Srinagar at the regional and study centre level, CASH committee has been constituted at RC level, IGNOU-MSDE extension centres have been created, activities under Unnat Bharat Abiyan have been conducted at the adopted village by the RC. He also shed light on academic activities which have been conducted for the benefit of border areas in which several pre-admission counselling sessions and induction programmes have been organised at Gurez, Tangdaar, Karna, Uri, Daksum, Drass and Kargil by the IGNOU RC Srinagar.

Towards the culmination of the ceremony, Dr Mudasir, ARD, RC Srinagar extended his heartiest gratitude to the dignitaries, participants and awardees for making the event successful.
