Sopore: Residents of Hathishah and Ningli in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged a protest against the Jal Shakti department for ‘failing’ to provide them regular water supply.

An eyewitness told, that scores of inhabitants had assembled at Jamia Qadeem in Sopore and raised slogans against the department and blocked the Sopore – Tarzoo road.

“We are facing an acute drinking water shortage for the past several days and the department is forcing them to consume filthy water from other sources”, said protestors.

“We approached the concerned officials many times but nothing has been done in this regard”, they added.

However, the police party of Police Station Tarzoo reached on spot and pacified the protesters and restored the traffic.

Meanwhile, when an official at Jal Shakhti Department Sopore was contacted, he said, the issue will be redressed soon as we are working on it.
