SRINAGAR, June 10: In a major boost to rail connectivity in South Kashmir, the Ministry of Railways has approved a commercial stoppage for the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag following a meeting between Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The decision is expected to significantly ease travel for commuters, tourists and traders by improving access to one of Kashmir's key economic and cultural centres.
Omar on Wednesday met Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and discussed various issues related to the augmentation of rail services in J&K.
On April 30 this year, Vaishnaw, along with Omar and other dignitaries, flagged off the Vande Bharat Express service between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, establishing for the first time a direct rail link between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley.
