DBU and PTPC Unveils Vision, Announces First Seminar-cum-Awards Function
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 24: The Punjab Trade Promotion Council (PTPC) collaborated with Desh Bhagat University, a newly constituted autonomous industry body, today unveiled its vision for strengthening Punjab’s trade, industry and export ecosystem at a press conference held at the Press Club, Chandigarh. The Council also announced its first Seminar-cum-Awards Function, scheduled for September 8, 2026, at the MGSIPA Auditorium, Sector 26, Chandigarh.
PTPC Chairperson Smt. Kanchan Sharma outlined the Council’s vision to position Punjab as a globally recognised trade, investment and industrial hub. Sh. Bal Mukund Sharma, Chairperson, Punjab Food Commission, highlighted PTPC’s focus on empowering MSMEs, start-ups and entrepreneurs, and facilitating their access to government schemes, markets and investment opportunities.
Dr. Sandeep Singh, President, Desh Bhagat University, welcomed the initiative and emphasised the need for stronger industry–academia linkages to support sustainable industrial growth. On the occasion, Sh. Vishav Bandhu Monga, Advisor, PTPC, along with Sh. N. S. Brar, Sh. Arun Grover and Sh. Taranjeet Singh Bhamra, were also present.
The September 8 seminar, themed “Promoting Punjab’s Food Processing, Specifically Food & Nutraceutical MSMEs — Policy, Promotion & Progress,” will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, MSMEs, start-ups and academic institutions. The programme will feature technical sessions on government support for food processing and the role of FPOs, SHGs and rural entrepreneurs, followed by the launch of a mobile application and the PTPC Excellence Awards.
The inaugural awards will recognise excellence in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Export Excellence and Women Entrepreneurship. Nominations, which commenced on August 19, 2026, will remain open until September 2, 2026. An independent jury will assess entries on parameters including growth, employment generation, innovation, quality, sustainability, farmer linkages and export performance.
