Desh Bhagat University Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotism and a Collective Resolve
Collective Pledge Taken Towards the Goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 17: On the occasion of the 80th year of India’s Independence, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, celebrated Independence Day on its campus with great enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and a strong sense of national pride. This year’s theme was ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, with the inspiring motto ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’.
The programme was organised at the Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Memorial and Sardar Lal Singh Memorial on the university campus. The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest and Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Distinguished Guest Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti, Dr. Ravi Bedi, along with all Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, staff and hundreds of students.
The programme commenced with the arrival of the dignitaries. First, everyone visited the memorial of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh and paid floral tributes to the great freedom fighter. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of all the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.
Thereafter, all staff members, students and dignitaries proceeded to the memorial of Sardar Lal Singh. Sardar Lal Singh was a great freedom fighter, educationist and social worker of Punjab. Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Dr Sandeep Singh President, Dr Harsh Sadawarti Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to Sardar Lal Singh.
Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh unfurled the National Flag. As the Tricolour fluttered proudly, the entire campus reverberated with the slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.” Following the flag hoisting, everyone sang the National Anthem in unison.
On the occasion, Dr. Ajaypal Singh said, “The saffron colour of the Tricolour symbolises sacrifice and courage, white symbolises peace and truth, and green symbolises prosperity.”
After the flag hoisting, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti addressed the gathering. He said, “Today, we are celebrating the Amrit Kaal of Independence. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. Educational institutions have the most important role to play in fulfilling this vision.”
He further said, “Desh Bhagat University also aims not merely to provide degrees to its students, but to develop them into responsible citizens and nation-builders. Our motto is ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’. If we resolve to build a corruption-free, clean and self-reliant India, no force can stop us. Today’s youth are tomorrow’s India. I urge all of you to strive for excellence in your respective fields and contribute to the development of the nation.”
During the programme, awards and certificates of appreciation were presented by the Hon’ble Chancellor and other dignitaries to officers and employees who had demonstrated excellence in academic and cultural fields, including Dr. Ajay Gupta and Dr. Rajnish Parimu, among others.
Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh said, “The success of any institution is largely attributed to the dedicated efforts of its hardworking employees.” He extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes, on behalf of the entire university family, to all the award winners.
This was followed by a vibrant patriotic cultural programme featuring patriotic songs, dances, poetry and speeches.
At the conclusion, everyone sang the National Song “Vande Mataram” and the Desh Bhagat University anthem. Thereafter, sweets were distributed by the dignitaries. Students of NSS, NCC and various university clubs played an important role in maintaining discipline throughout the programme.
At the end of the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Ajaypal Singh, who conducted the proceedings, expressed gratitude to all the guests, faculty members, staff and students. He said, “Today reminds us that freedom was not achieved easily. We must protect this freedom and take our nation to new heights.” The Programme concluded with the spirited slogans of “Jai Hind! Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Vande Mataram!”
