KARGIL, May 24: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today met Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and discussed implementation of minority welfare schemes, tourism promotion and other developmental issues concerning the Kargil region.
During the meeting, Dr Akhoon highlighted the need for effective implementation of Central minority welfare schemes in Kargil, including the newly created districts, so that eligible beneficiaries receive timely benefits under various Government of India programmes.
He stressed the importance of ensuring proper outreach and delivery of these schemes in all parts of the region.
The CEC also discussed the tourism potential of Kargil and urged the Union Minister to extend the benefits of Central schemes and investments to the newly formed districts for development of tourism infrastructure, connectivity and promotion activities.
He said Kargil, with its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and strategic importance, has the potential to emerge as a major tourist destination in the Union Territory of Ladakh, generating employment and economic opportunities for local residents.
The two leaders also discussed various issues related to the overall development and welfare of the Kargil region.
Dr Akhoon apprised the Union Minister about the changing administrative landscape following the creation of new districts and sought enhanced policy support to ensure balanced and timely development across the region.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and Dr Akhoon expressed hope that the Union Minister’s support would help accelerate developmental activities and ensure effective implementation of Central Government schemes in Kargil.
