J&K Statehood: From Promise to Reality

The restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is no longer merely a political demand—it is a question of democratic credibility.
With the elected government repeatedly seeking clarity from the Centre, the time has come to move beyond assurances and establish a clear, credible roadmap for statehood.
For the people, statehood is not about a title or political prestige. It is about greater accountability, stronger elected institutions and clearer administrative authority.
The Centre has often spoken of restoring statehood at an appropriate time. The elected government has now been given a mandate. The next step should therefore be one of clarity rather than uncertainty.
At the same time, the J&K government must prove that greater political authority will translate into better governance, employment, public services and development across both Jammu and Kashmir.
The central question is simple:
If democracy has returned through elections, when will full statehood return to complete the democratic process?
Jammu and Kashmir deserves an answer—not another indefinite promise.
