People Want Results, Not Political Drama: NC Failed on Election Promises, BJP failed on Statehood

Yaqoob Dunoo, National Spokesperson, National Loktantrik Party (NLP), today launched a strong attack on both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Conference (NC), accusing them of misleading the people of Jammu & Kashmir through political protests and blame games instead of addressing the real issues confronting the public.
Dunoo said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir have every right to ask both parties a simple question: Where are the promises you made to us?
He said that during the Assembly elections, the National Conference made major commitments in its manifesto, including 200 units of free electricity, while its election promises also included free LPG cylinders for households. Yet, the people are still waiting to see these promises translated into reality. The NC manifesto explicitly included the commitment to provide 200 units of electricity free.
On one hand, the people were promised relief from rising household expenses; on the other hand, today they are facing an increase in electricity tariffs. The latest average electricity tariff hike of 6.83%, effective from September 1, has added to the anxiety of ordinary consumers, Dunoo said.
He further said that the BJP must also answer the people of Jammu & Kashmir regarding its commitment on restoration of Statehood.
After the abrogation of Article 370, the BJP repeatedly spoke about restoring Statehood to Jammu & Kashmir at an appropriate time. The delimitation process has been completed and Assembly elections have also been held. The people now want to know: When will Statehood actually be restored? How long will the people have to wait? Dunoo questioned.
“BJP vs NC Is a Political Eye-Wash”
Dunoo said the ongoing confrontation between the BJP and NC appears to be less about solving people's problems and more about political one-upmanship.
Both parties are trying to project themselves as champions of the people while avoiding accountability for their own unfulfilled commitments. The BJP protests against the NC, and the NC attacks the BJP—but who is talking about the unemployed youth, inflation, electricity bills, struggling businesses, farmers, traders and ordinary families? he asked.
He said the people of Jammu & Kashmir are facing serious economic pressures, with prices of essential commodities continuing to hurt household budgets, while unemployment among educated youth remains a major concern.
Today, a young person completing his education is worried about his future. Families are struggling with the rising cost of daily necessities. Consumers are worried about higher electricity bills. Yet political parties are busy organising protests and counter-protests against each other, Dunoo said.
“Stop Fooling the People of Jammu & Kashmir”
The people are not fools. They can clearly see the difference between genuine public service and political drama. If NC has fulfilled its promises, let it present the record before the people. If BJP has fulfilled its commitments, let it also present the record. Neither party should hide behind political rhetoric, Dunoo said.
He demanded that both parties publicly clarify:
• When will the promised 200 units of free electricity actually be implemented for eligible households?
• What is the status of the promised LPG-cylinder relief?
• When will full Statehood be restored to Jammu & Kashmir?
• What concrete roadmap do the governments have for tackling unemployment?
• What immediate relief will be provided to ordinary consumers facing rising electricity bills and living costs?
Dunoo said the National Loktantrik Party (NLP) believes that the people deserve accountability, transparency and delivery—not political theatrics.
BJP and NC may continue their political battles, but they cannot divert the attention of the people forever. The people want electricity relief, employment, affordable essentials, economic opportunities and their political rights. They do not want BJP vs NC drama; they want results.” (Press Release).
