JAMMU, July 3: Prof Rajeev Rattan Sharma of the University of Jammu, has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the Sindhu Central University (SCU) Ladakh for a period of five years.
According to a communiqué in this regard, issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to the Directors of IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur (Mentors for SCU), the appointment of Prof Rajeev Rattan as the Vice-Chancellor has been made by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of SCU.
“The terms and conditions of the service of Prof Rajeev Rattan Sharma as the Vice-Chancellor of SCU shall be those as set forth in the Act, Statues and Ordinances etc of the University,” reads the communiqué.
Prof Rajeev Rattan is a senior Professor in the Department of Education, University of Jammu, where he held several important administrative positions, including Provost of Hostels, Head of the Department for two terms, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Director of the College Development Council. He has also served on various academic bodies and Councils of State and Central Universities, including as a member of the Syndicate of the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir.
His appointment as Vice-Chancellor of SCU has been made for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
