Srinagar, May 13, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather has constituted several key House committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, Estimates Committee, Public Undertakings Committee and other standing panels for the year 2026-27, according to official notifications issued by the Assembly Secretariat.
The notifications stated that consensus was reached among different legislature parties regarding nomination of members to the financial committees instead of holding elections under the proportional representation process.
According to the notification, Surjeet Singh Slathia was nominated as Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts, while Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) was appointed Chairman of the Estimates Committee and Mir Saifullah was named Chairman of the Public Undertakings Committee.
The Speaker also nominated members to several other committees, including the Committee on Environment headed by M.Y. Tarigami, Committee on Subordinate Legislation chaired by Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Committee on Privileges headed by Justice Hasnain Masoodi and Committee on Petitions chaired by Peerzada Farooq Ahmad Shah.
Ali Mohammad Sagar was nominated Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances, while Nizam-ud-Din Bhat was appointed Chairman of the Ethics Committee.
The Library Committee and General Purposes Committee will function under the ex-officio chairmanship of Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, while the Rules Committee will also be chaired ex-officio by the Speaker.
The House Committee for the period ending March 31, 2027 was also constituted with Chander Parkash, Devinder Kumar Manyal, Shakti Raj Parihar, Mir Mohammad Fayaz and others among its members. [KNT]
