JAMMU, May 19: International fencer Vishal Thappar has been selected to represent India in the Senior Fencing Sabre World Cup scheduled to be held in Cairo from May 22 to 24.
The selection was made after a three-phase trial conducted by the Fencing Association of India at the National Centre of Excellence, NSNIS Patiala. Other fencers selected in the Indian squad include Karan Gurjar, KP Gishonidhi and Lakshay Badser.
Currently ranked third in India, Vishal has represented the country in several national and international events and has won many medals, including a senior Commonwealth gold medal. The Indian team has been cleared by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with full financial support from the Sports Authority of India.
Vijay Kumar, President J&K Fencing Association (JKFA) and Adv Supriya Chouhan, Secretary J&K Fencing Association (JKFA) termed it a proud moment and extended wishes to fencer for this prestigious event.
