MOSCOW, Aug 9: At least 22 people were killed in a head-on bus collision in southern Niger, local news agency ANP reported citing the country's transport ministry.
According to preliminary reports, of those killed 17 were soldiers, the agency said.
Another 37 people were injured in the accident, it added.
The accident occurred in the Madawa department between a bus travelling from the city of the same name and another bus, primarily carrying military personnel from the city of Zinder. The buses collided several kilometres from the village of Rezi, on the outskirts of the town of Doukou Doukou.
Nigerian Transport Minister Abdourahmane Amadou, on behalf of the country's authorities, expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
