Mandi Gobindgarh, August 4: Reinforcing the importance of legal literacy in healthcare, the Department of Law, Desh Bhagat University (DBU), organized a Legal Awareness Camp for undergraduate students of the Faculty of Dental Sciences. The programme, themed "Do Not Fear the Law – The Law Protects Doctors & Dentists," highlighted that legal knowledge is an essential component of professional medical practice, empowering healthcare professionals to deliver safe, ethical, and legally compliant services.

The awareness camp aimed to familiarize future dental professionals with their legal rights, duties, and responsibilities while encouraging confidence in handling legal aspects of healthcare. The sessions emphasized that understanding the law not only safeguards practitioners but also strengthens patient trust and promotes ethical clinical practice.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Shoeb Khan, Director, Department of Law, and Dr. Jaivir Singh, Principal, Department of Law. The resource sessions were delivered by Dr. Arti, Assistant Professor, Mr. Sushant Bali, Teaching Assistant, along with LL.B. 3rd Semester students Mr. Amritpal Singh, Mr. Gurinder Singh, Mr. Pratham, and Mr. Navjot Singh, B.A. LL.B. 9th Semester student Mr. Rishabh Kumar, and B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) 5th Semester student Ms. Ishrat Jahan Nafia.

The speakers educated participants on various branches of law, the legal rights and liabilities of doctors and dentists, medical ethics, patient rights, informed consent, documentation, and the legal framework governing medical negligence. They also discussed practical legal challenges faced by healthcare professionals and the importance of preventive legal awareness in clinical practice.

Dr. Tejveer Singh, Principal, Faculty of Dental Sciences, appreciated the initiative and lauded the Department of Law for providing an informative and interactive platform that enhanced legal awareness among undergraduate dental students.

The programme drew inspiration from the visionary leadership of Dr. Zora Singh, Hon'ble Chancellor, and Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, who have consistently emphasized the need to educate doctors, dentists, faculty members, and students about their legal rights, professional responsibilities, and ethical obligations. They encouraged such awareness initiatives to strengthen confidence among healthcare professionals while ensuring adherence to the legal and ethical standards governing medical practice.

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students actively engaged with the resource persons and gained practical insights into the legal dimensions of the healthcare profession.
