Mandi Gobindgarh, August 4: Reinforcing its commitment to the Government of India's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Desh Bhagat University (DBU) TBI Foundation, in collaboration with the Faculty of Allied and Healthcare Sciences and the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, organized a comprehensive anti-drug awareness programme at Gyan Niketan Public School, Ludhiana.
The programme aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and motivate them to adopt a healthy, responsible, and drug-free lifestyle. Students actively participated in the interactive awareness session, demonstrating keen interest in understanding the social, physical, psychological, and legal consequences of drug addiction.
The initiative was organized under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tejinder Kaur, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Sadawarti, whose continued commitment to social awareness and youth empowerment has strengthened the University's outreach initiatives.
The campaign received valuable encouragement from S. Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member, NISD and Special Invitee, NCCDR, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, whose dedication towards building a drug-free society has inspired several awareness initiatives across the region. The programme was successfully coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Tulika Mehta, DBU TBI Foundation, while the constant support of Dr. Atul Khajuria, Principal, Faculty of Allied and Healthcare Sciences, played a significant role in the successful conduct of the event.
The awareness session was delivered by Ms. Nahida Bilal, Assistant Professor, Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology, and Mr. Jasir, Assistant Professor, Anaesthesia Technology. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, they sensitized students to the growing menace of substance abuse and encouraged them to make informed life choices, cultivate positive habits, seek timely support when required, and become ambassadors of a drug-free society.
As part of the programme, all students enthusiastically took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to remain drug-free and spread awareness among their families, friends, and communities.
To acknowledge the support of the host institution, Dr. Deepak, Principal, Gyan Niketan Public School, was presented with an Appreciation Award. Similar awards were also presented to Mr. Suraj Bhatia and Ms. Priyanka Bhatia, Coordinators of the school, in recognition of their valuable cooperation in organizing the event.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to students for their enthusiastic participation and commitment to promoting the message of a drug-free India. The awardees included Bharti, Preetpal, and Gaurav from Class X, and Kripa Nand, Jemal Singh, and Manoj Kumar from Class XII.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the school management, faculty members, coordinators, and students for their wholehearted support.
