Qom, July 7: A massive funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members was held in the holy city of Qom on Tuesday, a day after what was described as one of the largest funeral processions in Iran's modern history took place in Tehran.
According to Tasnim News Agency, the ceremony in Qom began at 6:00 a.m. with funeral prayers at the Jamkaran Mosque, led by senior cleric Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli.
Following the prayers, mourners joined a funeral procession that moved along Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) Boulevard toward the holy shrine of Hazrat Fatima Masoumeh (SA).
Tasnim News Agency reported that aerial images showed the participation of millions of mourners in the farewell ceremony. Delegations of Muslim mourners from several countries, including Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, were also present.
The main funeral procession was held in Tehran on Monday, where large crowds gathered from the early hours of the day to take part in the ceremony.
According to Tasnim, the funeral ceremonies officially began on July 3 with the arrival of foreign dignitaries and official delegations from across the region and beyond in Tehran to pay tribute to the late Leader.
After the funeral ceremonies in Qom on Tuesday, commemorative events are scheduled to be held in Najaf and Karbala, Iraq, on Wednesday at the request of Iraqi religious and political leaders. Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei will then be laid to rest at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad on Thursday.
