BEIJING, Jul 20 : The Indian Consulate General in Shanghai organised a special lecture on Sulba Sutras at China's Fudan University, one of the country's leading institutions of higher learning, officials said on Monday.
The Sulba Sutras are ancient Indian texts dating back to 800-500 BCE, primarily used as guidance for building Vedic altars with precise geometrical configurations.
Shailaja Sharma, Visiting Professor at the National Institute for Advanced Studies and Azim Premji University in Bengaluru, delivered the lecture titled "Geometry of the Cord and Pin (Sulba Sutras)", the Consulate said in a press release.
The event organised by Indian Consul General Pratik Mathur was well received by students and faculty pursuing Indian studies and mathematics-related subjects, it said.
The lecture was chaired by senior academic and leading Indologist and Sanskrit scholar Prof Eberhard Guhe at the Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies, School of Philosophy at Fudan University.
The Centre was set up following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China in May 2015.
The event also marked the beginning of a planned new lecture series meant to showcase the strengths of Indian scholars and universities across a wide spectrum of disciplines, the press release said. (PTI)
