TEHRAN, July 26 : The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine's charge d'affaires in Tehran and lodged strong protest over Ukraine's alleged attack on Iranian commercial vessel. The attack killed one person and injured another sailor.

"The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemns Ukraine's attack on an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea on the morning of Saturday. The attack caused an explosion on board, resulting in the death of one sailor and injuries to another. This attack is a violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and an act of aggression that could further fan the flames of war," Iranian Foreign Ministry wrote on Telegram on Saturday.

Tehran reserves the right to take retaliatory action and defend its interests and national security in accordance with international law, "particularly the principle of legitimate self-defense," the ministry added.

The responsibility for the consequences of Ukraine's reckless actions will rest with Kiev and those who support it, the ministry said.
