Jammu: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), J&K, organized a one-day First Aid Awareness Session at Oriental Academy School, Jammu, for the students and teaching staff of the institution.
The awareness session aimed to sensitize students and teachers about the importance of first aid and equip them with basic knowledge and skills to respond effectively during emergencies, accidents and medical situations before professional medical assistance becomes available.
The Red Cross team comprising Dr. Manpreet Kour, Medical Officer, and Ms. Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, conducted the awareness session and sensitized participants about the basic principles of first aid and the importance of providing timely assistance during emergencies.
During the session, the Red Cross team briefed participants about the importance and principles of first aid, handling common injuries and emergencies, and the management of bleeding, burns, fractures, fainting and other situations requiring immediate assistance.
Participants were also made aware of the importance of remaining calm and taking timely and appropriate action during an emergency.
The session emphasized that basic first aid knowledge is an essential life skill, particularly for students and teachers who may be among the first responders during an emergency within school premises or elsewhere.
Teachers and students actively participated in the session and interacted with the Red Cross team, seeking clarification on various aspects of first aid and emergency response.
The Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, reiterated its commitment to promoting first aid awareness and life-saving skills among students, teachers and the general public, with the objective of building a more prepared, responsive and resilient community.
