Minimarg, Jun 9: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Tuesday termed the breakthrough of the Zojila Tunnel as a "historic milestone," saying it would ensure all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while boosting economic growth, tourism, and national security in the border region.
Speaking at the Zojila eastern portal, LG Sinha congratulated the people of J&K as well as Ladakh and lauded the engineers, scientists, and workers who have been working in harsh weather conditions to complete what is being seen as a game-changer for the region.
“I congratulate the people of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir and all those associated with this project who worked tirelessly in adverse weather conditions,” he said.
The LG also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and his ministry for executing key infrastructure projects in J&K and Ladakh, adding that improved road, air, and rail networks over the past decade had transformed previously neglected regions particularly border areas.
Highlighting the importance of connectivity in border areas, he said improved road, air and rail networks over the past decade have played a key role in driving development.
LG Sinha emphasised that the tunnel would strengthen national security in the sensitive border area, ensuring seamless movement of armed forces and supplies throughout the year.
With the annual AmarnathYatra set to begin July 3, LG Sinha said the improved connectivity would also provide significant relief to pilgrims.
