Banihal, June 12: Two persons were killed after a car skidded off the road and plunged into a deep nallah near Levra forests on the Chamalwas–Neel road in Banihal on Friday evening.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Banihal, Ashiq Hussain Lone, who led the rescue operation along with police personnel, local residents and volunteers of Banihal volunteers, rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident at about 6:15 pm.
He said the vehicle was extensively damaged in the crash, and rescuers had to make strenuous efforts to extricate the occupants, who were trapped inside the mangled wreckage of the car. One of the occupants died on the spot, while another was shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
The deceased have been identified as Amir Ahmed, son of Mohammad Shafi Chopan; and Zeeshan Wani, son of Abdul Latief Wani, both residents of Batoo Neel area of Ramsoo tehsil in Ramban district.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is underway.
