KATHMANDU, Jun 16: Two top officials of the Nepalese foreign ministry's passport division have been arrested by the anti-corruption body for alleged irregularities in passport printing, sources said on Tuesday.

Investigators are examining suspected irregularities in a procurement contract associated with the passport system, sources said.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Monday took into custody Tirtharaj Aryal, director general of the Passport Division under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Director Sunil Kumar Kesi for investigation, according to sources.

A special court has granted permission to keep the duo in judicial custody for four days, starting Monday, to facilitate the investigation into the alleged corruption charges, court spokesperson Krishna Sharan Lamichhane said. (PTI)
