Irked over twin fashion events in 10 days, Burqa clad women hit streets in Srinagar

Srinagar: Maiden twin fashion shows that were organised in Srinagar district over the past two weeks irked scores of Burqa clad women and girls, who held a silent protest march on Sunday, terming them un-Islamic and first step towards nudity.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), twin fashion shows were organized sofar in the Valley of which one fashion show was organised on March 30 at SKICC by Royal Kashmir while second one was organized on April 10 at Tagore Hall by All Jammu and Kashmir Youth Society led by Sajid Yousuf.

In the first-ever such events, dozens of youth including boys and girls participated and performed before jury.

The organizers during the events said that Kashmir is full of talent and they have been organizing such events with an intention to boost the morale of the youth and also provide them a platform.

Meanwhile, scores of Burqa clad girls and women carried out a protest march against fashion show at SKICC from Zabarwan Park to SKICC Srinagar.

The protesters carrying placards reading slogans like ‘Hijab is a personal choice’ and ‘Its not the cloth that oppresses women, its the illiterate mind.’

One of the protesting lady said that the organiser of the show claimed that it is about clothes only, but as per the Islamic principals it is prohibited and is the first step towards nudity.

“We have organized this silent protest today to raise a voice over such kind of happenings as such events can lead to dangerous and un-Islamic situation in our society,” said another protestor—(KNO)
