Ras Bihari — a veteran journalist having spent four decades in journalism associated with Dainik Hindustan, Nai Dunia and Governance Now — has for the last six years closely studied the political landscape of West Bengal, a state torn between rising fanaticism and those trying to protect the Bengali asmita, the dichotomy of a society that is vacillating between ultra Left to extreme Right. Born at Govardhan in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, Bihari did his early education from Palwal and Faridabad in Haryana and then moved to New Delhi where he joined the Hindustan Times group and served for 22 years as a senior journalist. He also briefly worked with Hindusthan Samachar as its Executive Editor. He holds a postgraduate degree from Guru Jambheshwar University, Haryana and has been a regular commentator on TV channels on Indian politics. He is currently holding the office of the President of National Union of Journalists (India).

रास बिहारी। सरोकारी पत्रकारिता के महत्वपूर्ण हस्ताक्षर हैं। जनहितैषी खबरों के जरिये चाहे प्रशासन को नींद से जगाने की बात हो या सरकारों के नकारापन को बेबाकी भरे शब्दों से उजागर करने की, रास बिहारी पूरी निडरता और सजगता से पत्रकार होने का फर्ज निभाते रहे हैं। इसके इतर, वे देश में पत्रकार हितों के लिये संघर्षरत सबसे सशक्त और बुलंद आवाज़ के तौर पर खास पहचान रखते हैं।
भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की जन्मभूमि मथुरा के गोवर्धन में जन्मे रास बिहारी ने हरियाणा के पलवल और फ़रीदाबाद में शिक्षा प्राप्त की। करीब चार दशक पूर्व पढ़ाई के दौरान ही उन्होंने अग्रणीय पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में लिखने की शुरुआत कर दी थी। शुरूआती दौर में उन्होंने पंजाब केसरी और दैनिक ट्रिब्यून अखबार में लिखते हुए अपनी कलम की धार को तेज किया। कुछ अखबारों से जुड़ने के बाद उन्होंने भारतीय जनसंचार संस्थान,नई दिल्ली से जर्नलिज्म में पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट डिप्लोमा और गुरु जम्भेश्वर विश्वविद्यालय से जनसंचार में पोस्ट ग्रेजुएशन किया।
1988 में कुछ समय वीर अर्जुन अखबार में रहे। 1988 से 2008 तक वह वह दैनिक हिन्दुस्तान में विभिन्न पदों पर रहे। मेरठ और गुरूग्राम में हिन्दुस्तान अखबार के प्रभारी रहे हैं। नई दुनिया अखबार की दिल्ली-एनसीआर लॉंचिंग टीम के वे महत्वपूर्ण स्तम्भ रहे और मेट्रो संपादक के पद पर रहते हुए नई दुनिया को दिल्ली में एक अलग पहचान और मुकाम पर स्थापित किया। रास बिहारी अब तक गवर्नेंस नाउ के वरिष्ठ संपादक, हिन्दुस्थान समाचार के कार्यकारी संपादक, और रांची एक्सप्रेस में वरिष्ठ संपादक/ राजनीतिक संपादक के पद पर कार्य कर चुके हैं। फिलहाल वह रांची एक्सप्रेस, राष्ट्रीय खबर, हमारा समाज उर्दू दैनिक, दोपहर मेट्रो भोपाल और प्रथम प्रवक्ता के साथ जुड़े हैं।
रासबिहारी लम्बे समय तक दिल्ली पत्रकार संघ के अध्यक्ष और महासचिव रहे। वर्तमान समय में वे नेशनल यूनियन ऑफ जर्नलिस्ट्स (इंडिया) के अध्यक्ष हैं।
